Guatemala (numero seis)

From April 28th thru the end of May I was with my best friend, Jeorge Jay, in the hills & on the road in Guatemala. Todavia the energy & ideas of that month are with me. JuJo was the reason for the trip, he had been living there two years (third world). In February, JJ finished the Peace Corps (Cuerpo de Paz!) & in May we finished an interpretive trail. We were in Santa Clara la Laguna, on the blue, foggy Lago Atitlan. I made great friends and good handshakes. I fell in love with the salutation "adios" which I pronounce "dy!o!" sorta. Augustin and I traveled South to Monterrico & Hawaii. We went to Guate City on free museum day. We hung with Chris & Eny, a rock and roll doctor & his photographer squeeze. We rode bicycles down long, long down hills back to Santa Catarina. We ate tortillas, beans, & eggs. We smoked a joint & hung in the hammock. We burnt trash. We went to Antigua & saw a woman draw colorful birds with her foot & map pencils. We sang songs & laughed & laughed. We wrote everyday. I filled two notebooks. I felt like I was a strainer funnel, all the strange & familiars, all the voices & sounds. Wow! On my birthday we slept loudly, on a steep lava rock face of Vulcan Pacaya (that's a volcano, y'all! near San Vincente Pacaya). We watched the bright orange lava sliding down the mountain across a valley of lifeless, sharp rock. It was adventures I will never forget. Thanks, Jai Jai!
